Drone Application for Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Pre-Emergent Weed Control

How to identify it

A pre-emergent doesn't target one species; it stops the annual weeds that come up from seed each year. Crabgrass is a textbook example: a low, spreading summer annual that sprouts by the thousands once the soil warms, which is exactly the germination a pre-emergent is timed to head off.

Why it’s a problem

Pre-emergent only works in a narrow window, applied evenly before the target weeds germinate. Miss that window, or skip the wet, inaccessible ground, and the weeds come up anyway, robbing forage and fouling hay.

When a drone is the right tool (vs. a ground rig)

Timing is the whole job here, and a drone can go the day the calendar calls for it, wet or soft early-season ground included. A soggy spring field can hold a truck out for a week without holding up the pass.

Best time to treat

Pre-emergent only works before the target weeds come up, so timing is everything. For summer annuals that means late winter to early spring, before the soil warms and the seed germinates; for winter annuals it means early fall. Miss the window and the product can't do its job, so we watch soil temperature and schedule around germination.

Treatment cost

A pre-emergent job prices off the acreage and the window it has to hit. Ask us for a quote on your pasture or turf.

A note on results: a treatment reduces an infestation, and no application can guarantee a percent kill. We scope every job to the site in front of us and tell you what a pass is likely to do.
