Cedar (Ashe Juniper) Control
Ashe juniper (Juniperus ashei), commonly called cedar, is an evergreen that overtakes Central Texas and Hill Country range.
How to identify it
Ashe juniper (“cedar”) is a dense evergreen with tiny, scale-like blue-green leaves pressed tight against the twigs, not needles. Female trees carry small blue-black berry-like cones; in late winter the pollen-heavy male trees turn rusty-orange and release clouds of pollen.

Why it’s a problem
Cedar drinks heavily, shades out grass, and colonizes the steep, rocky canyon country and draws where a ground rig physically can't operate. It's one of the leading drivers of lost forage and reduced water in the Hill Country.
When a drone is the right tool (vs. a ground rig)
Steep, rocky, broken Hill Country ground is where this shows its worth: the canopy gets treated from above, on slopes no rig can drive. Scattered young trees can be picked off one at a time without clearing the whole hillside.
Best time to treat
Smaller trees take a foliar treatment best, and the tree needs to be actively growing and off drought stress when we fly it. Timing gets matched to the stand and the product it calls for. Reclaiming a badly infested slope is several seasons of work, and one pass will not do it.
Treatment cost
Steep, rocky, cedar-choked ground is the strongest case there is for flying a treatment instead of driving it. Price follows the acreage and how heavy the stand is. Ask us for a quote.
