Drone Application for Cattail Control
Cattail Control
Cattails (Typha spp.) are tall emergent plants that colonize shorelines and shallow margins, spreading by rhizome.

How to identify it
Cattails are unmistakable once they seed: a tall, stiff green blade topped by a brown, cigar-shaped seed head. They grow in dense stands right at the water's edge and out into shallow margins, spreading by underground rhizomes.

Why it’s a problem
Cattails ring a pond's edge in dense stands and spread by rhizome into the shallows, crowding out open water and access. They stand in soft, muddy margins where an ATV bogs and a boat can't reach the back of the stand.
When a drone is the right tool (vs. a boat)
The full depth of a shoreline stand is treatable from overhead, soft muddy margins and back rows included, with an aquatic-approved product at label rate and nothing churning up the bank.
Best time to treat
Late summer into early fall is a strong window: mature, actively growing cattails are moving resources into their rhizomes then, so a systemic aquatic-approved product travels down to the roots. We work that active-growth stretch and leave some emergent cover standing for habitat where it makes sense.
Treatment cost
A cattail quote comes down to how much shoreline the stand rings and how workable the margin is. Send us the shoreline and we'll price it.
A note on results: a treatment reduces an infestation, and no application can guarantee a percent kill. We scope every job to the site in front of us and tell you what a pass is likely to do.
Aquatic safety & permitting posture
We apply only aquatic-approved products, at label rate, for the target and the site. Depending on the water and the jurisdiction, some waterbodies need notification or a permit before anyone treats them, and we coordinate that with the owner before we fly.
